Barefoot and a Garage Full of Stuff (Fraddling Friday)

by SomeGirl on April 9, 2010 · 6 comments

Yesterday, the boys and I took part in TOMS One Day Without Shoes campaign. Together we committed to: spend the day barefoot, donate shoes to Soles4Souls, and pray for people around the world who have no shoes (we took “putting feet to our faith” literally). ;)

When we woke up the floor was cold, and when we went outside the ground was rough. But the most difficult part of the day was when I found out we had a flat tire and the car needed to go to the shop.

The boys and I loaded up the car and made our way to the big, cheap tire store… you know, the one where they give you a Discount.  ;) As we got ready to go in my oldest one said, “This is embarrassing!” I agreed. It was embarrassing. But, we talked about how embarrassing it might be for others to show or say that they have needs (I know it’s embarrassing for us to do that) and we prayed for them (and us). Then we decided to go in and remember the people for whom we were barefoot.

At the end of our awkward time, I mentioned to someone why we were barefoot and an older man nearby struck up a conversation with me. He was intrigued with the idea of going barefoot for a cause. Then he informed me that his wife grew up without shoes. Isn’t that interesting? We’ve come along way from not having shoes to having closets packed with shoes (and garages STUFFED FULL of extra, unnecessary things: toys, furniture, knick knacks, etc.)

Which leads to my next fraddling activity…. today I’m having a GARAGE SALE! I’m getting rid of the excess! I hope to make a little extra money while I’m at it, but I REALLY hope to clear out my garage and get rid of some of the STUFF! That’s fraddle for my well-being and my sanity. And I plan to give away what’s leftover for free… I love ending garage sales that way… fraddle for strangers. If you’re in the area, stop by! :)

Oh, I almost forgot to mention my guest spot on OnceAWeekVegan today… I’ve accepted the challenge to eat Vegan one day a week and I’ll be blogging about my experience each Friday. I’m calling it Fraddle for my Health! Please check it out here if you get a chance! :)

So, what about you? How did you fraddle, love intentionally or “put feet to your faith” this week? I’d LOVE to read about it in the comment section below. Or link your “feet to faith” post below for all of us to read! (Just be sure to link back to SomeGirl’sWebsite … btw, we’ll be linking up each Friday! So, keep that in mind next week as you blog). ♥ Thanks!

If you’re a blogger who wants to be a part of the challenge and be encouraged by other like-minded/like-hearted bloggers and readers, start praying and looking for opportunities to put feet to your faith, blog about it anytime during the week, then link up here on Friday (because putting feet to your faith is fraddling, you know). Let’s spur one another on toward love and good deeds! Click here for more info or to grab a button.

Best wishes for your garage sale today! That is really cool – going barefoot for a cause. I’ve got to ask though – was there a sign at the auto store saying you needed shoes? I’m not sure why but I was wondering that when reading this. You know how some larger retailers can be. You are such a blessing, Michelle. Your kids are learning such beautiful things from you!

No, there wasn’t a sign. It was a neat experience. As for the garage sale… I got rid of some junk and only made $35 (where we used to live I’d make over $1000 on a normal sale)… this place stinks for having a sale! But, everything else about it is great! :D My son sold some toys and came away with $28, so that was nice for him.

I’m glad you’re back! I missed you here and at your blog. :) Thanks for the comments!

I have a post to link up next week. It’s just still in my brain and I haven’t had time to sit down and write it out properly!

Some Girl

Yay! I’ll have a link-up every Friday… can’t wait to read it! :)

The thought of you going to get your tires changed BAREFOOT brought tears to my eyes LITERALLY. You are such a committed individual and those boys are so blessed to have you as a mama, and I am blessed to have you as a friend.

Some Girl

Well, that’s just the sweetest comment ever! Thank you, Sweet Shea! I’m blessed to have you as a friend, too! Please come to work with Cali sometime… please!? :)
