(playing in the radio of my mind – James Brown – I Feel Good)

Woo-Hoo!! We’re FREE!!

It’s the official start of summer vacation here and I’m LOVING it!!

Want to know what GREAT plans we have for the first day of our break??

Doesn’t that sounds DIVINE??!!

I made the mistake of homeschooling all through the summer last year and following the traditional school year as tightly as possible and I BURNED out early in the Fall. So, I’m trying not to make the same mistake this year (even though we’re not quite sure what next year holds in terms of schooling).

We do, however, have some FUN and EXCITING plans ahead of us…

Tomorrow we’re going on our 2nd annual Enrichment-Classes-Are-Over-Go-Cart-EXTRAVAGANZA (which just means we ride a few times around the go-cart track that we pass every Wednesday on our way to classes and always say, “We’ll do that to celebrate when school gets out.” ). ;)

Then, for the month of July, to finally take action on our dream of escaping the HEAT of Texas summers, we’re going on a family ROAD TRIP!! (Oh, how we LOVE road trips!!)

We’re planning on leaving our home in the DFW area, driving a good 7 hours (which is really much more than that due to stops) to the edge of Texas (It takes FOREVER to get out of Texas!), then making our way to the Grand Canyon, both Redwood forests, San Fransisco, a beach or two (dozen) ;), Portland (maybe), Seattle, then up into Canada. Our main stops there include Banff and the 5th largest mall in the world complete with a waterpark inside (I mean, what’s a mall without a waterpark in the middle, right?). ;) Our only timed part of the trip is our final stop in Oshkosh, Wisconsin at the end of July for the annual airshow (we’re meeting family there and will spend nearly a week with them… and celebrate our oldest one’s 9th birthday). :)

I’m SO excited!!

But, for today I’m just resting… and I’m LOVING it!!

What about you… what are your summer plans? If you homeschool, do you take the summer off? I’d LOVE to hear in the comment section below (scroll down or click here)!

Btw, get ready for a TON of pictures to start coming, in just 6 weeks!! ;)

(At the moment we’re planning on camping most of the time, but we’ll see how that pans out.)

You are going to pass right through my hometown! (Portland to Seattle)

How exciting! I would love to take a road trip like that someday. I can’t wait to see the pictures!

How fun! Do you live there now or is it where you’re from? Can’t wait to see that area! :)

I’ll tell you how it goes to prepare you for your future trip. :) (If we survive!) ;) lol

It’s where I live AND where I’m from. I have never strayed far from home. :)

Fun! We’ll do a big shout out to you when we drive through! :) Any suggestions on cool places to stop with little ones? (boys 8 and 4) :)

I am so excited that you have such a great trip planned. What a bonus that your husband can actually be “working” along the way with his photography!

You know I am within hours of OshKosh right? Oh how fun it would be to meet up there or somewhere south of there through Illinois. Let’s talk!!

I didn’t know that’s where you are! Any chance you want to go to the air show?? :) Let’s do talk!!

Erin @ Closing Time

How FUN!! Have a great time, and I can’t wait to see the photos! (I know you’re not leaving for over a month, but still…yay!! )

Thanks, Erin!! I’m sure you’ll get sick of photos before it’s all said and done! ;)

I cannot wait to be done with school, the light at the end of the tunnel is getting bigger! In about 4 weeks, I leave for Schroon Lake, NY, where I will be serving in childcare at the Word of Life Inn.

Yay, for light at the end of the tunnel! Sounds like a wonderful summer service opportunity!

Yay! Summer!!!! =) Have fun–what a road trip!!!! =)

Thank you!! ♥

Sounds fun! What a fun way of making family memories!!

I think so, too! Thanks for taking the time to comment, Katie! :)

Michelle, That sounds like so much FUN! If you guys get anywhere close to Lake Louise in Canada (just over the border of US and Western Canada), it’s a must see. I’ve been told, “it’s the prettiest place on earth.” Of course that is subjective. We are driving to OK, then to CO, then to Taos and stay 8 days there. Can’t wait to see your ton of pictures. Love you guys.

Steve says that’s near Banff, where we’re going. He heard the same thing! “Prettiest place on earth.” Can’t wait to see it!

Taos ought to be lots of fun! Can’t wait to see your pictures, too!

Love you back! xoxo

That sounds like so much fun! Our family would love to take a long road trip like that. Someday! You really should go to Portland. It’s one of my favorite cities. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, but now we live in Texas too. Love it here, but miss the amazing beauty of the northwest. Have a wonderful time!

Ooh, I’d love to hear any tips you might have on things to do or places to see in Portland! I hear it’s beautiful up there! Welcome to Texas, btw. :)

And thank you SO much for taking the time to comment! ♥ Michelle

Most of the times we visited Portland it was just my husband and myself. We went there several times for our anniversary, so most of our favorites revolved around coffee and bookstores! :) There is a nice zoo in Portland that we did take the kids to when they were really little. If you have a zoo membership to another zoo you might be able to get a discount (or maybe get in for free). Some other places near Portland that are family friendly are Tillamook Cheese Factory (about an hour away I think…it’s a great place to visit) and Multnomah Falls which is beautiful! Our favorite beach on the Oregon Coast is Cannon Beach. I wish I was going! Have a great trip!

Yay Edmonton! So much more than just the mall. ;) Thats my hometown, although we live about five hours away now. (And at the moment we live in Hawaii, lOl – we’re doing YWAM training here.). And my heart is in the Rockies – so amazing. My soul is just happy there. Enjoy!! Would totally try to meet you in edmonton, but we’ll be in Cambodia July & August!
