Life Is Full of Unexpected Things (Thought Provoking Thursday)

by SomeGirl on September 7, 2011 · 5 comments

Yesterday we saw a zebra in someone’s backyard. We were all in awe!

Along with the zebra there were donkeys, llamas and horses, many of which came to the fence wanting our attention.

It was quite a sight!

Life is full of unexpected things.

Yesterday, I spoke on the phone with a friend who has evacuated her house because of a raging wildfire a mile from her home.

She’s just south of us and over 600 homes have been destroyed by the fire in her county alone, while other fires are burning all over Texas and have together destroyed over 1,000 homes…. 1,000 homes!

She told stories of great loss and mighty displays of God’s glory.

Life is full of unexpected things.

I sit here thankful that yesterday’s unexpected events in our life were good and joy-filled, but mindful that for others the day brought heartbreak and sorrow.

I take a moment to pray for those who experienced loss, keeping in mind that we don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but we know The One who holds tomorrow in His hands…. Nothing is unexpected to Him. He is not caught off guard or by surprise.

When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, a man cannot discover anything about his future. – Ecclesiastes 7:14

Something I’m thinking about.

Btw, my sweet friend, Patti, is working to set up a FB page to help replenish the homeschool materials lost by so many families in her area. Follow @becomingjoyful on twitter for more details.

I just LOVE hanging out with you guys on Thursdays! Thanks for stopping by and for linking up!

HOW COOL!!! a zebra….and you didnt have to take a drive to the zoo!! sweet!
Sorry about your friend. I know a few people in texas who’s families are in the area. I pray for rain!
That verse I have seen 3 times in the last month. BEAUTIFUL! and peaceful effect it has in me.

Lovely post, Michelle! Life is definitely full of unexpected things. I’m thankful for the good ones, and I’m praying for those affected by difficult ones like the wildfires.

Love your oldest’s wide open mouth. :-)

This is indeed so thought provoking. I am living in a fog of the unexpected right now as my phone rings constantly with more updates on people I love and new fires break out.

Thank you for letting folks know about our efforts to help. The need in our small community is overwhelming, with 1386 homes burned down. You can find our facebook page here!/pages/Help-Bastrop-Homeschoolers-Affected-by-Wildfire/147704288652581
