Open To Receive and Give (Thought-Provoking Thursday)

We have a great covered-patio in the back of our house…

When the door just to the left of this horribly-messy-at-the-moment patio is open the wind blows its way through, making the curtains fly all about.

Just a couple of days ago, my littlest one and I sat at the breakfast table, looking out this window, watching the curtains dance around.

Realizing the pollen is in peak production and not wanting the patio fully covered in yellow (as seen on the top of that chest), I made my way out to cut off the wind by shutting the door.

Once back at the table with my littlest one, we noticed the curtains dancing about again. Wondering what was causing this, I went back out to check the door. There I noticed the garage had been left open, producing another outlet for the wind to pass through.

I closed it and the wind stopped. The curtains went back into place… there was nowhere else for the wind to move through.

Instantly my thoughts started churning…

The wind blows strongly through areas that are open to receive it and open to give it out. In areas that are open to receive, but closed to give it out the wind doesn’t enter much at all.

And it made me think…

What parable is there in this to be applied to our lives?

Most of us are open to *receive* goodness, kindness, gentleness, joy, love, etc…

But are we open and willing to *give* what we’ve received to others, letting it flow out through us? Or are we closed off, not wanting to pass anything on?

Are we (am I) willing to be a “wind tunnel” for God?

Something I’ve been thinking about…

Ugh, is it Thursday already? This week has flown by! But what a great lesson to get me to stop and focus and think…

Thanks!

My third post for the day…it’s a record. I want to be open to the wind. Definitely something to think about.

Definitely a great thought! I love your parables from daily life, Michelle! :)

Thanks, Deb! Isn’t it great how so much in life speaks of God?! :)

What an interesting thought… we have the choice to allow God’s grace and love to flow through us or we can “shut the door.” What a blessing when we live in obedience and His grace and love flow through us into the lives of others!

Beautifully said! Wish I could go back and add your words to the post! :)
