My friends joke about how we keep a babysitter tucked away in our closet and pull her out whenever we need her. But the truth is, two nights a week a sweet girl named Cali comes to work for my husband and watch the boys so we can go on a date or do whatever we’re in the mood for. Tonight, my husband is going to the Apple store to check out the new iPad and I’m tucking myself away in the guest room to do some stuff on the computer (research fire engine cakes for my littlest one’s 3rd birthday party this weekend, write this post, look up recipes for my new challenge to eat Vegan one day a week*, etc…). As I sit here thinking of what to write I’m listening to all that’s going on in the next room… My husband is yelling to my oldest one, “Come here! There’s a skink!” My oldest is excitedly replying, “WHERE?? WHERE??” Cali, our sweet babysitter, is squealing with fear. My husband and son are now yelling, “IT’S IN THE HOUSE!” My youngest is giggling and jumping up and down with the skink’s tail in his hand while his brother is holding the body loudly exclaiming that the skink broke in two! And “Miss Cali” is running and squealing with more fear as my boys chase her (as any good boys would do). ;) And I’m laughing at it all! It makes me think of one of my favorite verses to quote… Proverbs 14:4 “Where there are no oxen, the manger is empty…” In other words, where there are no oxen the stable is clean and quiet. That seems nice some days, but today I am really enjoying the noise, laughter and mess of an “oxen” filled house.

*Stay tuned… John, from Once a Week Vegan, has challenged me to eat Vegan one day a week (3 meals) and guest blog about it one day a week. I’ll start this coming Friday… this ought to be interesting! (Did you know I have another blog called Fajita Lovers?! I love meat and cheese!!! VEGAN???? What was I thinking????) ;) Seriously though, I’m looking forward to it! Thanks, John! :)
