A Love and Logic DVD!! (Birthday Bash Giveaway)

Do you remember my post recently about the Five Magical Words that lit a fire under my littlest one’s feet when it was time for bed? Here’s a little excerpt from that post…

(written after a post about a grumpy day and the boys not going to bed at a reasonable hour)

The boys went to bed on time last night and so did I. We’re all rested and ready to start the day. I was a little concerned when a few minutes after putting them to bed my littlest one came to the stairs and started the same thing he’s been doing the past couple of days… “Mommmmmy, can I….?” (fill in about 20 different questions to delay going to bed).

Then it happened, I said one little phrase that sent him running to his bed and had him asleep in less than 10 minutes… do you want to know what it was?

There was no yelling, no begging, no threatening, no spanking… nothing. Just 5 magical words that lit a fire under his feet. Are you ready for it? Here’s exactly what I said,

“Ohhh Nooo… I’m losing energy.”

{in a very dramatic, tired, battery draining kind of voice}

That was just a small sampling of the Love and Logic that goes on around here. I am often heard saying, “I know.” “That stinks.” “Bummer.” and the infamous, “Uh-oh.” And my children have begun to say things to each other like, “I love you too much to argue.” ;)

If you’re not familiar, Love and Logic’s approach to parenting is to let your children make affordable mistakes when they’re young, so they won’t make unaffordable mistakes when their older. Instead of trying to keep your child from making mistakes, as a Love and Logic parent you want your children to make mistakes early on so they will learn from them. And with Love and Logic’s techniques you don’t have to get upset when they do make those mistakes, because you see them as GREAT learning opportunities! :)

Since becoming a parent I’ve had the great fortune of attending a Love and Logic Seminar, listening to their tapes and taking one of their classes (many school districts offer them for free, btw). I just LOVE what I’ve learned! Such valuable information to create a calm, loving and respectful home environment! Love and Logic is definitely my FAVORITE parenting tool out there!!
