Are We Being Good Stewards

by SomeGirl on June 15, 2011 · 26 comments

That’s a discussion my sweet husband and I were having the other day, “Are we being good stewards of what God has given us?”

To answer that question, we plan to sit down with a printed list of what God’s given us materially and pray over each item, asking, “Is this the way you [God] want that used?”

Then, prayerfully, we will listen to what He has to say.

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21

Something we’ve been thinking about (and will, hopefully, do soon).

What a great idea, Michelle! It’s so easy for possessions to just accumulate. That would be a good exercise to practice on a regular basis.

I agree. I’m always surprised by how easily we accumulate stuff!

That’s a great idea. I think that some of us will be surprised at the answer.

I know, right? And I confess to being a little nervous… (we still need to do this, but are planning to take some time to do it on our trip).

I need to do this. I also need to write down that Isaiah verse and keep it nearby.

Don’t you just love that Isaiah verse?? I have it framed in my kitchen. :)

This is a question that comes to mind even more as we have brought more and more Compassion International children into our family. I am going to copy the verse, it is a good one!

Bringing in Compassion International children really makes you think about things differently, doesn’t it?

Thanks for commenting, Michelle! :)

We talk all the time about how we don’t really need what we have and why accumulate more. There are much better things to do with our money and time!

I agree with Debra Chitwood, always good to take stock. Even just mentally.

Yes, even just mentally… so true.

Thank you for this! My kids and I have been going through a Christian money mgmt curriculum this summer and talking about stewardship.

What a great thing to do with your kids! What curriculum are you using? Do you like it? :) I’d LOVE to know more about it, if you have a minute to share. :)

This has been on our minds a lot lately too. What a great exercise to go through (regularly!). I think stewardship is one of those things that takes constant monitoring and heart checks (just like your household budget!) to stay on the right path.

So true… constant monitoring like a household budget -I like the way you put that. :)

We’ve been thinking about this as well. We really need to pray and search our hearts.
