My husband and I were scheduled to fly out of DFW for NYC today to spend the weekend in the Big Apple celebrating our 13th wedding anniversary.

Then our littlest one came down with the same 5-day virus our oldest one had last week. Poor little guy feels miserable.

To make matters worse for him, we let his brother continue on with his plans to go camping with his Mimi and Poppy… it was heart breaking to see him cry over not being able to go as his body burned with fever.
Now, my husband and I sit together watching a foreign film on a comfy couch as I wonder if I’m starting to get sick, too.
And I am reminded of a verse…
In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. – Proverbs 16:9
I pray that you and I would hold loosely to our plans, and trust fully in The One who knows the plans He has for us.
May that be something we continually think about.

Such good advice to hold loosely to our plans. I hope your son feels better soon, and I hope you and your husband are able to have a wonderful anniversary weekend anyway, Michelle. And if you are getting sick, I wish you a speedy recovery and very special late anniversary weekend soon!
Michelle, I am so sorry this nasty bug hit your house…it hit us…the first time on Dec 16….and we are just NOW fully over it (I hope)….we didn’t have plans for NYC for an anniversary…so sorry you missed that and I pray you get to go…but, this was not a ‘normal’ Christmas…and we missed our cookies, etc…so, I’m planning on baking Christmas cookies tomorrow…though, I’m learning quickly, my plans may not be the ones…that are accomplished!!!! Love you!
So sorry you are not able to go to NYC…praying that you will be blessed with relaxation as your family recovers from this illness.
Praying for quick recoveries for your little guy, and that YOU don’t get sick!
Enjoy the snuggles!
I am thinking how much we grown-ups are like your little power ranger, so heart-broken and grieving because our Father denies our most deeply desired plans. He knows what’s best, but it doesn’t feel like it at times like these. Hope your small guy is on the mend now. God bless you all.
Hi Michelle! I hope he feels better very soon. Happy anniversary to you!
Oh! I hope your little Power Ranger feels better soon and that if you and your husband “catch” it, you’ll be able to shake it off quickly.
I am so sorry for your little hero. I hope he feels better soon. There’s just something about January, isn’t there! I hope you’re able to have your anniversary date after everyone’s up and well again. We’ve had the winter sickness here too this past week. Enjoy your time of snuggling on the couch and watching your movie. :-) Blessingsā„
My friend Amy wrote a post yesterday about interruptions (here’s the link http://beyondsundaymorning-amy.blogspot.com/ ) I was thinking when I read her blog yesterday, the Verse in Ephesians that has been in my thoughts so much these past few days (Eph 3:20-21) was reminding me that my thoughts and agenda for the days might be good, but nothing compared to His masterplan and agenda, and I LONG to be open for those things. God nudged my spirit thru your blog and the words “hold loosely” I am currently good for interruptions from my house cleaning and candy land playing day to something God would want to do, because I havent already made plans….ouch. So…more need of Him to take over control…and trust. Praying for your house as you’re sick!
Ah…your poor baby. I hope he’s feeling better soon. Such a disappointment for him, too. If he missed out on a camping trip he must not live near me — beautiful snow is falling!
My mother-in-law always said, “Make your plans subject to smash.” I’m thankful the Lord knows my steps!
wow for a control freak, I love this quote: I pray that you and I would hold loosely to our plans, and trust fully in The One who knows the plans He has for us.
Thank you! I hope you still get to go and celebrate sometime with your hubby. Found you on twitter! Love, Traci
I so agree. We have to hold our plans so loosely and be open for what God wants to do in our lives. I have been reminded of this so many times when these great plans I had just fell completely apart. I have to know that there is a better way, solution or perhaps I was on the wrong path. Thanks for your post and for providing the link up.
As they say, life is what happens while you’re making plans! :-).
My prayers are with you for quick recovery for your little one, and for you all to stay well. I believe we won’t know till we reach glory how He protected us from unseen dangers using what we thought to be a disappointment when it happened.
Thanks for hosting the link-up, and God bless!
Laurie
So beautiful!! Happy Anniversary!
So sorry to hear about your trip. Hope you feel better soon…
Poos little guy, even though he is not feeling good, he does want to be with his brother! (jealous maybe) I can remember haveing to stay home because I was sick and my siblings were able to go without me. – Not a happy camper – so I understand. Hope that virus bug leaves your home soon. Happy Anniversary anyway!
Praying for healing and protection that you don’t get sick as well! Happy Anniversary!! It will be our 13th anniversary March 6th of this year! We’ll be celebrating with a very tiny baby to care for. I agree with you…may not be the most “ideal” way to spend an anniversary but it’s the what God has for us in this season and we trust Him! God Bless!
Thank you all for your kind comments! xoxo
Hope your son feels better soon, and you too! Yes, we may make plans but ultimately it is not in our hands! Every New Year, my family and I go to the beach to escape the city’s smog from the firecrackers. Guess what? On the 28th, I went to the hospital for a vein scan. After the test, the technician said I shouldn’t go home but that I should check in! I had deep vein thrombosis, rather serious! So no one, not my dad, mom, my sisters and their families, no one went to the beach!!! And I ended up spending 4 days in the hospital!
Happy Belated Anniversary. So sorry your little guy got sick. And love the verse you shared.
