Want to hear something weird (and cool)?
I have a girlfriend at church who, years ago, died in an operating room for several minutes… she told me that when she died she saw God.
And do you know what?
He knew her by name, talked with her with great joy and laughter, and had the most amazing eyes.
She told Him she was in middle of buying her first house and wanted to go back, and He laughed and spoke her name in the kindest of ways (the kind of way that would have followed with “silly girl”).
He told her He had a mansion for her there… but she went on to say that there was so much more for her to do for Him.
He asked, in a loving voice, what she was going to do?
She replied “anything you want.” (I don’t remember the exact words, but it was that basic point.)
Instantly, she came back to life.
Since I heard her story a year ago, I can’t help but think of God’s love and laughter over us.
How wrong we must have it when we think that God is looking down, smirking and shaking His head, disapproving of what we are doing – someone we can never please, no matter how hard we try.
I am quite sure the opposite is true…
The Bible says He rejoices over us with singing!
The LORD your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing. – Zephaniah 3:17
And my girlfriend says He knew her and laughed at her silliness with oh such loving, amazing eyes!
May we sense His GREAT love for us today and know in the depths of our hearts and the deepest places of our minds that He truly delights in us and rejoices over us with singing (and laughter).
