The Bridegroom Is Coming!

by SomeGirl on February 25, 2011 · 4 comments

My sweet friend, Jenny, has so kindly offered to lead us through the book of Mark during the month of February (you are invited to join her by reading through Mark at your own pace). I am SO thankful! She is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met and I know you will all enjoy getting to know her! She describes herself as a Yankee girl, born and raised just outside of Chicago, living in Tennessee (where I had the pleasure of spending several days with her last week).

She is a blessed wife and mother of three young children, and the owner of Southern Institute of Domestic Arts and Crafts where she blogs about family, faith, sewing, and healthy living.

(Btw, can you believe it’s the last Friday of February?? Thank you, Jenny, for sharing your heart and your words with us here these past Fridays!! ♥ Michelle)

Current events have left me wondering “How much longer, Lord?” “Nation is rising against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.” (Mark 13:5)  We can see it unfolding on our t.v. screens and laptops.  There is unrest, there is anger, there is death… but there is also hope for those who trust in the Lord!

Christ is returning for His church! Are you His? Are you waiting expectantly?  Sometimes I think that we forget to be expectant.

expectant (adj): eager, excited, psyched, agog, waiting with bated breath, hopeful

Are we waiting with bated breath for His return?

If you are married, think back to your wedding day.  Do you remember the anticipation those last few minutes before walking down the aisle to meet your groom?  How excited were you?  Your future was right in front of you, and he couldn’t wait to hold your hand and take you in his arms.

That is Jesus, friends! The Bridegroom is coming for us, the church, and He can’t wait to hold us in His arms!  Are you anticipating that? Are you waiting with bated breath? I had forgotten… I confess.  I am just trying to get through this day unscathed.  Too often I forget to look eagerly ahead.

“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.  Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come.” (Mark 13:32,33)

The Bible tells of signs of the coming of Christ, but really, we cannot know when our bridegroom will come.  All we can do is to be ready.  Share the Gospel with those who are lost.  Pray for boldness.  Be fishers of men.  Serve your family, love well, be in His word, seek after Him with your whole heart!  We just don’t know how much time we have left here.  The world needs Jesus and He is coming! Are we ready?

Our hope is in Christ Jesus, my friends!
He is the risen one, the One whom death could not hold.
The One whom death could not hold!

Cranberry Morning

You are so right…the world NEEDS Jesus. The prevailing attitude out there seems to be that God is irrelevant. We’ve spent a generation telling people how wonderful they are so we don’t damage their self esteem. We’ve reaped a people who don’t see themselves as sinners who will bear the wrath of God if they don’t repent of their sin and trust in the only means of salvation, JESUS.

Great post, Jenny. Sometimes I have a hard time understanding parts of the Bible. It’s nice to have someone to help walk me through it. And the importance behind the words in the Bible really helps to put things into perspective sometimes. Wishing you a beautiful day.

Agog! I love that word! Agog for Jesus. :-)

Share, pray, serve, love, seek… those big bold words… YES! No one knows the hour. Praying to be gratefully ready!

“The king is coming, the king is coming. I can hear the trumpets sounding … ” I can hear this play through my head as I read this post. What a blessing to know that He is coming for us soon! I pray that I can be a lighthouse to point others to Him! :)
