The Eyes Have It (Photography Wednesday)

Today we’re going to try something new…

I’m giving you an assignment to help facilitate your learning! (Don’t worry, it won’t be graded.) ;)

First, make sure your camera is not set to have everything in focus (see your manual or google your camera model with the words “set focus”).

While you’re at it, find out how to set your focus on one object. (On my camera there is a red light that appears in the view finder. I place it on the object I want to appear in focus, press the shutter release halfway to lock the focus in place and then press all the way to take the picture.)

Next, carry your camera with you at least 1 full day this week – take it out of its carrier and hang it on your shoulder or wrist.

Now, start shooting… shoot lots of photos. Make it so normal for you to be taking photos that no one around you even thinks to look at you and say “cheese.”

For this week, focus on the eyes of the people or animals around you.

Get down on eye level with your subject and shoot away. It may feel weird and you may think you look strange, but I’m sure you’ll be very pleased with the end results!

Shoot LOTS of pictures!!

Capture your subjects in a variety of settings, doing a variety of activities like….

Enjoying their time on a swing (your focus may end up a little off because of the motion, but that’s okay). :)

Entering a natural cave on a mini vacation (don’t you love how I throw in family vacation shots here?). ;)

Or marveling at God’s creation 50 feet below the surface of the earth.  (Remember to use your lowest aperture and highest ISO when shooting in a dark space like a cave. Your photos will be blurry, but you’ll capture the memory pretty well.)

Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Speaking of that… would you guys like to share your pics with all of us in a flickr group like SomeGirl’s Photo Assignments found here. Or would you like to blog about your results and link up your post the following Wednesday in a blog link-up?? Please let me know in the comment section below. Thank you!

Btw, for those who might want to tweet this post with the twitter button below, the link automatically shortens when you press send, no need to delete characters even though it says -12.

Cranberry Morning

It’s always a good idea to carry your camera with you. I know. I can’t count how many times I’ve had to go back to get my camera. And keeping it around so that the fam is used to it is a great idea, to avoid getting those fake smiles.

Be sure to enter my Soap’n’Such Giveaway if you haven’t already. :-)

Thanks, Judy. I just entered… man, I want to win ALL of your wonderful soaps!! :)

(For those reading this… Judy has a GREAT blog, Cranberry Morning, with travel pictures and info, gardening fun, delicious recipes and a VERY nice handmade soap giveaway to welcome you today. I think you’ll love getting to know her, I know I do!) :)

I know I’ve mentioned this before but I’ve been an awful student on this photography journey! {runs away now}

Girl, don’t run away! :) You can audit the class… no homework to be done, just look and listen. ;)
