The Fear of Self-Awareness (Thought Provoking Thursday)

I have a confession to make. I used to pray the following prayer with an open and sincere heart and now I’m afraid to pray it…

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24 NIV

But I know that “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 NIV

So, why am I so afraid? That’s something I’ve been thinking about.

And then there’s today’s Daily Manna: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the desert and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.” Isaiah 43:18-21 NIV

Which for some reason makes me think: there’s nothing to be afraid of, we were created for a purpose by a God who loves us! He knows our heart already and His perfect love can cast out all fear… even the fear of self-awareness. Thanks be to God!

Now that’s something I really need to think about! How about you?

It is scary to think of how many times we fall down in a day, and how often we turn away and try to control instead of letting Him take control. I was reading a devotional about giving it to Him this morning. Then I was thinking “How much easier is it when we give things up to Him? He has control and we don’t have to worry.”

Thank you for sharing that, Sherry! ♥ Michelle

Ps. 139:23-24 is one of those prayers you almost don’t want Him to answer sometimes!

Thanks for your honesty! m :)

I know, right? Like praying for patience or to overcome fear… things like that I’d almost rather not pray sometimes! But after writing about it I was more able to pray it… funny how that works! :)

Thanks for commenting, sweet friend! ♥ Michelle

Wow!! Thanks for the thoughts!! Needed that today!

It’s neat how that works, isn’t it?! Hope you’ve had a GREAT day! ♥ Michelle

It’s so beautiful that we are made righteous by the blood of Christ. When God looks at you, He doesn’t see your sins, He sees what Jesus did for you on the cross. I remember this when I fail.

What a wonderful reminder! Thank you, Kay! ♥ Michelle

Cranberry Morning

Great post to ponder! Too many of us grew up thinking of God as someone who was just waiting for us to do something to annoy Him. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Piper says, ‘God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.’

‘for His mercy endureth forever.’ How many times that is repeated in the Psalms!

Love that quote from Piper, I’ve not heard it before. Thank you, Judy! ♥ Michelle

‘His mercy endureth forever’… amen!

I totally needed this for all my anxious thoughts! I recently read that trusting in God means feeling a complete peace that everything is going to turn out right. I definitely have struggled with the nagging feeling that things will not turn out ok. I have to keep reminding myself that God does know my heart and He does have it all worked out.

He does know your heart and have everything worked out… He has a plan for your life! I’ll be praying for you, sweet friend! May God give you a peace that passes all understanding; may you rest in the knowledge that He is in control. I miss seeing you! ♥ Michelle

I definitely struggle with the “letting go” and trusting and know that He has everything planned out and we just have to trust. I guess trust is my issue because I just wanted to know, I want to know what his plan is for me and for my family and it’s a really learning process for me to give up the control and just trust HIM.

It is such a learning process, isn’t it? Sometimes I think it would be nice to know His plans and then sometimes I’m glad I don’t… we wouldn’t enjoy the good times if we knew about the bad times to come. May God be glorified in our learning to trust Him! Thanks for sharing this, Sarah! ♥ Michelle

Me, too. You were one of the first readers to give me to the confidence to go on!! I know we’ll meet face to face someday, too!

Oh, Betsy! That is so encouraging to me! Thank you! I can’t wait for us to meet face to face! ♥ Michelle
