Need for Revival {Day One}

by SomeGirl on October 1, 2011 · 37 comments

A personal note to my sweet friends who don’t share my faith… You’re always welcome here! Life, for the most part will go on as normal around this place with fraddling, photography, thought-provoking Thursdays, and a fun Chevy event, but prayer for revival will be the main theme of this month. I hope you’ll stay around and I pray you will take the opportunity to examine your heart and the love God has for you, but I never want you to feel like you’re not welcome! You are loved and always welcome here!

Welcome to this month’s exciting series: 31 Days of Prayer for Revival! I can’t wait to see what God’s going to do in and through us as He stirs and awakens our hearts for Him!

When I started thinking about a 31 day series my mind naturally went to something dealing with photography. In fact, my husband and I worked up a fun 31 Days to More Creative Photos guideline on a McDonald’s napkin one night a few weeks ago (I’ll use those ideas for future photography Wednesdays).

Then…

I was asked to prayerfully consider becoming the leader of our missions and outreach program at church…. oh my!

I prayed about it, mulled over the commitment, weighed it against all of my other responsibilities, talked with some others who might be interested in being on a team with me and realized…

If I’m going to fill this role, which my family and I decided together for me to do, I need to start praying for revival in my heart that feels a little like this lately…

You can tell there used to be good growth there, but the heat and lack of water has dried it up.

I need (and want) my heart to be filled to overflowing with love for God, then love for others.

And since I blog so much of what happens in my head and heart here at SomeGirl’s Website, it just made logical sense that I would take you guys on this journey of prayer for revival with me! :)

So…

Here I am without a clue as to how to run a 31 Days of Prayer for Revival series, but with a strong desire for God to fan the flames in my heart and restore my first love for Him and then others.

(another area of our yard that was dried up from the heat, but brought back to life, revived, after generous amounts of water… a reminder that life can be brought back to even the deadest of things.)

I’m not exactly sure how it will look here, but I do plan on blogging each day during this series and being open and transparent. If you’d like to blog along, please do!

I’ve been praying for my sweet friends who’ve let me know they’re praying for revival in their own hearts, too. If you’d like me to pray for you as well, just let me know that you’re joining along in the comment section below. :)

Not every day will be as wordy as today. But I felt an intro would be nice to kick us off.

If you’d like to tell us all a little about yourself and why you’re praying for revival, feel free to do so in a comment, and if you’d like to encourage those who comment, feel free to reply to others. Hopefully this will be a time and place of encouragement as we all seek to love and glorify God with our hearts, souls and minds.

Thank you sweet friends for joining along!

I’d encourage you to take a moment to pray a prayer of confession before God. I’ll write my prayer here as an example, but I’d encourage you to pray your own.

Sometimes I like to follow the ACTS model when praying…. Adoration (praise), Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication (requests).

…………………………

Father,

May You be glorified.

You are mighty, holy, loving and just.

You are the Creator of all living things.

You know me. You know my heart. You know my selfish desires.

Yet, You love me still.

While I was a sinner You died for me.

You saved me from a dark and hopeless life.

You filled me with love, joy, and peace.

Because of You I have hope unending and can rejoice in all things… good and bad.

Yet, I have forgotten You and have focused my thoughts on me.

I have let the flames that once burned brightly for You die down in my soul.

But, You are faithful, even when I am unfaithful.

Thank You for Your unfailing love for me, for Your promise to purify me from all unrighteousness when I confess my sins to You.

Thank You for Your continual work in my life.

I pray You will bring revival to my heart!

That You will restore my first love…. My love for You and then my love for others because of my love for You and Your love for me.

May You be glorified in this month of prayer and may the revival started today be never ending!

Amen.

Did I tell you how much I am looking forward to your blog series? It’s one of my favorites. It will be so good for my heart.

SomeGirl

Oh, thank you, Barbie! And I love your topic… 31 Days of Abiding. What a GREAT month this is going to be! :)

Candie

Love this series! I hope you didn’t mind but I posted about it on facebook because I believe there is such a need for revival of Christians. Not just in our hearts on a personal level but as a body of believers. We have very uncertain times happening and its important not to loose focus and to remember what living for God is really about. Whew ….I’m feeling really GREAT this morning after some prayer and a post in FB for all friends to see…..challenging them to find refreshment in the Lord. From all of this….from that post..from these 31 days I pray that the LORD always gets the glory for all WE as a body of believers do. I want to live on the edge for the Lord. I’m sorry to go on but I’m fired up for Jesus this morning! Prayers are for you and for all who have decided to join.

SomeGirl

Thank you, Candie! I can’t wait to see what God does in and through us as He brings revival to us and it spreads outward to others! Spread the word all you’d like! :) I’m looking forward to spending the month in prayer with you!! :)

Karen

Yes, oh yes, dear friend. Amen. Have been waiting for your series. It will do my heart well. I do forget and I do need revival. I do let the pain and daily life get to my heart some days and need a continual heart revival. This journey has been a wonderful and difficult one but I am blessed and I need to remember that each and every day! Thank you for blessing us this way. I will be joining you and praying for you. Love you sweet friend!

SomeGirl

Love you, too, Karen! I’ve been praying for you today and your comment has spurred on a post for this series… thank you! I’ll keep praying for you and am so thankful to have you join in prayer with me! xoxo

Kristal

We are having a huge prayer revival at our church as our Pastor saw it as an area that so many are lacking in. They started prayer groups and he has been preaching on what they bible says. It has been great… but in all honesty I haven’t changed. I want to… but when does a mother of four fit that in. Sad to say, but that is the truth…. I know he should be my priority but homeschooling four children really fills my days.

Missy Flickinger

Kristal,
Reading thru your comment, I am lead to tell you that it doesn’t have to be a fall on your knees for hours at a time kind of thing. I am a firm believer that God listens to even your silence. So even saying the name of Jesus in your own mind can start the process. Thank you goes a long way too. So just say Thank you Jesus and it has begun.
In his love,
Missy

SomeGirl

So true, Missy! Thanks for taking the time to reply!

SomeGirl

Sweet friend, I have prayed for you off and on all day long! I pray this time of prayer will change you. I pray your days filled with homeschooling four children will be filled with joy and praise for The One who gives you breathe and life and ability to do all that you do. I will continue to pray and wait to rejoice with you when the month is over and you shout from the mountain tops, “I’ve been changed!! Revival has come!!” (Can you tell I’ve been praying passionately for you today??) ;) Which is kind of funny… your comment alone has brought revival to my prayer life! Thank you! I’m SO glad you’re here! (((hugs)))

Emily

This sounds great. I’m writing a 31 Days series as well, but I can’t wait to follow along here and join you in this journey of revival, too! And what a beautiful prayer!

SomeGirl

I’m SO glad you’re here, Emily! I’ll be praying for guidance in your calling as well as revival… great 31 Day series, btw! :)

Stefanie Brown

Father,
Thank you for giving my sweet friend, Michelle, this challenge. I am blessed to have her as a sister in Christ.
As we walk through this month, praying for revival, may we first allow it to begin in us. Forgive us where we have failed you. Restore unto us the joy of our salvation. Renew the right spirit within us so we may love and serve you and others purely. Give us a continued passion for the lost. Help us to feel the urgency of the moment.
We love you! Thank you for loving us when we were unlovable!
In Jesus Holy and Precious Name,
Amen

SomeGirl

Amen and Amen. Thank you, sweet friend!

Susan @LilbearMe

I so understand what you mean, Michelle. I need that revival as well. Thanks for sharing the ACTS prayer model as I’ve never seen it before. {I’m still learning a lot!} Will be praying for you as you take on the missions & outreach for your church. Looking forward to reading what God puts in your heart! :)

SomeGirl

You’re welcome! I love that model… it helps keep my mind focused and keeps me out of the vending machine mode. ;) Thank you for your prayers for this new position. I start full force tomorrow! And thank you for joining along in this series! Praying for you, too! ♥

SomeGirl

I’m praying for you all! And I’m SO glad you’re here praying with me! (((hugs)))

Stacey

Love this Michelle! I have you in reader (of course) and will be praying right along with you!

May God do a mighty work here and in the hearts of those who join you!

SomeGirl

May He indeed! Thank you, Stacey! And may He do the same mighty work over at your place (as He always does)! :) Love, ya!

Melissa

This goes along perfectly with my theme for 31 days which is 31 days to a Clean Heart. I will be following this in my reader and praying for your new ministry position as well!

SomeGirl

Thank you, Melissa! I appreciate your prayers. And boy, yes, do our series go hand in hand! I can’t wait to see what God’s going to do through all of these posts! Isn’t it so exciting?? :)

Hannah

Just what I need. I’m in the process of becoming a happier person and part of that is getting closer to God. Revival is needed in my heart!

SomeGirl

Oh, Hannah, I will pray for your process… may the joy of the Lord fill your heart to overflowing!! Thank you for letting me know how to pray; I will continue to do so often! Love, Michelle

Missy Flickinger

Sign me up. I am right there with you in this. I need this just as much as anyone. Thank you for the push!!!!

SomeGirl

I’m glad to push and so thankful to have you pushing back! :) Glad you’re here!!

Jill @ Sweet Diva

This is perfect timing as I am committed to 40 Days for Life, which began this week. Will be looking forward to your posts over the next 31!

Jill @ Sweet Diva

SomeGirl

That *is* perfect timing! May God be glorified in your 31 and 40 days! Praying for you. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

RuthintheDesert

What a great idea! I’m going to join you in the 31 series, praying through various topics in the book of Psalms. Tomorrow’s post will be praying for Light…which really is a prayer for revival. :)

SomeGirl

Yay! Glad you’re going to join in the 31 series! Looking forward to reading tomorrow’s post! :)

SomeGirl

(Wow, I use a lot of exclamation points!! Can you tell this series has me SO excited??) :)

Michelle@Radiant Brown Beauty

Amen to that. I also think it’s wonderful that you put it out there that everyone is welcome. That show’s how much of a sensitive spirit you have my sister.

May I make a suggestion? If your heart is feeling a little dry so to speak, start in the book of Psalms and read them out loud so that the Word gets deep in your heart. Your prayer in conjunction with reading God’s Word allowed will guarantee by the end of these 31 days your heart will be changed!

God Bless you and I look forward to sharing these 31 days with you :-)

SomeGirl

Thank you, Michelle. That’s a great suggestion!

SomeGirl

And thank you for your kind words! :)

Lynn@TickledPinkLife

What a great topic! I look forward to following along and know that I will be blessed by reading what the Lord says through you! And I will be praying for you too throughout your series!

SomeGirl

Thank you, Lynn! I so appreciate your prayers!

Jana

Oh Michelle, I love what you’re doing with your 31 days! I’m pitifully behind in my blog reading and am just now catching up with you. What a blessing it was to open my overflowing reader and find your heartfelt prayer! I’m rejoicing with you over your new ministry position! Thank you for speaking the truth in love and shining your light brightly for Jesus. You are a blessing!

P.S. Oops ~ I seem to have used an excessive! amount! of! exclamation! points! too! ;)

aplaceforthoughts

Love this. And it’s something I desperately need right now. You are always in my prayers, Michelle.
