The REAL Me (with “I would never let anyone see me like this” photo)

I got THE sweetest comment from a good friend yesterday… It was filled with all kinds of nice words about me and I loved reading it, but I just had to reply and say, “You are too sweet… but I’m really not all that.” I would LOVE to be what he described: wonderful, loving, caring, kind, generous and compassionate. But the truth is… I’m not. Do you wanna’ know the REAL me? More times than not… I’m the distracted mom pushing the grocery cart around Walmart too busy to listen to the stories her children are trying to tell her… the mom on the phone at the park while her children are playing… the impatient lady waiting in line rolling her eyes and sighing every once in a while… the person who spends $60 a week on her children and herself to eat out and be entertained instead of giving it away to the hungry… the frustrated lady complaining to the store clerk because the ‘no return’ policy wasn’t clearly displayed… the lady pulled over by the police officer because she was speeding down the road in a hurry… the self-absorbed person who doesn’t remember your name because she was too busy wondering what kind of impression she made when you were saying it… you get the picture?

On the other hand… I am an eternal optimist. When asked if the cup is half-full or half-empty I will say half-full as far down as I can (and after that it’s just waiting for a refill). ;) I have a natural bent toward smiling and will smile or laugh in most situations (unless I’m REALLY pms-ing). I have a strong desire to encourage others and to provoke thought (which often causes my husband to bear the burden of my role as Devil’s Advocate). And, most importantly, I have been loved with the GREATEST love anyone could ever imagine! And the One who loved (and continues to love) has asked me to do something in return … to love others (not to earn His love, but to show His love). Unfortunately, as I told you above, I’m not very good at that…and the sad truth is, most of the time, I just simply don’t care. I go about my life focused solely on me and my interest (not saying that’s good, just saying that’s how it is). So, I hope I haven’t given you the wrong impression… I’m really not that loving and kind, but I hope that I will be one day. And that’s why I’m here blogging… to encourage myself and my sweet friends (that’s you) to think and to be intentional about doing what He asked… to love one another. Hopefully one day that will be the REAL me. :)

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.  John 13: 34-35

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.  1 John 4:7-12

Girl, you stole the words right out of my mouth! Seriously! That was going to be my next blog. Well, it probably still will be, but now I won’t have to write so much! I’ll just be sending people here…. or maybe you’ll let me talk you into “guest posting” it on mine…

Some Girl

You were going to blog about me not being loving and kind? ;) teehee

Seriously, though… it’s funny how we think alike. I like it!

FYI, I’m always up for guest posts. But I also love reading what you write! :)

Love you, too!

So, you are not perfect.Sometimes you are just full of shit. Just like the rest of us. But I stand by my comments.

Some Girl

Ok, that I can live with. ;) And it reminds me of a talk we had a long time ago about being Christ-like and now I see those attributes in you again… you see the bad and still love. I’m blessed to know you and call you a friend! Love you, John!

(Didn’t know your comment would turn into a blog post did you? And I’m thinking I need to go back and read my post about not being perfect… good reminder, thanks!)

John is 100% right about the compliments, by the way. You may not be those things every second of everyday, but that doesn’t make them untrue!

Some Girl

I love you guys! You are good friends and I hope others can have friends who are as loving, encouraging and accepting as you both are! Thank you!

Alicia The Snowflake

Amen! None of us are perfect. The point is to keep striving. May we remember to share His love with those around us and not show our flesh. Thank you for that great reminder.

Some Girl

Thanks, Alicia! And thanks for stopping by! :)

I’m going to agree that you’re not perfect, but I only know of one person EVER who was perfect. I’m quite thankful for him. I know you are too. Only God’s perfect son could have saved us.

You are pretty freaking awesome though. I’m biased it’s true, but I love you so I’m okay with being biased.

Some Girl

Beautifully said, and so true. Thanks, Jamie! (And thanks for those sweet words. I love you and think you’re GREAT, too!)

Love the authenticity! I am working on adding links on my blog and yours will def be there! What kind of camera do you all use? cuz your pics are so stinking amazing that steve and you take! or is it the editing software you have? just curious!

Some Girl

Aw, I would be honored to be in your links! Thanks, Jason!

For cameras we use whatever is handy… For the road trip photos and a few others Steve has a Cannon D40 (I think that’s the style name- Pro $$$). The photos on the recent mud puddle post were taken with a Cannon Rebel XT (Steve’s backup, now my camera – much more affordable, but still $!). The fishing photos were from his iPhone. I usually just auto adjust the contrast and levels in photoshop. The other awesome photos come from flickr.

you are all the things that you have written, but you are also the most mission minded person I have ever met. So overall, your pretty great!

Some Girl

You’re TOO sweet, Heidi! Thank you! ♥ ♥ ♥

Michelle, it’s soooo good to hear someone else say exactly what I’ve been thinking lately. I wonder how it is I always have such good intentions yet am distracted, irritated, impatient, frustrated and sometimes downright mean — even to those I love the most. =( Sometimes, I know I’m acting this way even while I’m doing it and others, it’s just a heated comment, missed snuggle or irritated “mom voice” that escapes me before I can reign it in. *Sigh.* I guess the Lord knows we’re not perfect, and we should rely on Him to help us walk in his path instead of our own. Thanks for the words this morning. I needed them!
