The Week After Christmas: The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

by SomeGirl on December 30, 2010 · 9 comments

The dishwasher hums in the distance. The TV plays in the other room. The ornaments are down. The only CHRISTmas decorations left out are the ones that truly count or take a little more effort to put away… A few nativity scenes, two trees pointing toward God with their natural beauty and a couple of candy canes, and the lights in our front yard.

The new Buzz Lightyear wings are on and off again in a matter of minutes as I sit here writing. The Lego sets are built and sitting by the side of their creator. My husband is back to work after a week long vacation and a day with a stomach bug. Life is getting back to normal (and the days are getting longer!). I think I really like this time between Christmas and New Year. It’s still easy-going due to holidays, but not as busy as the week before. There are no checklists to be marked off and no last minute trips to the store. Our hearts are still warmed from the presence of our friends and family and our bellies are full from the good food!

Yes, I do REALLY like this time of the year. I might even take back the question I had a few weeks ago about what the artist was thinking when he wrote the song, “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of The Year.” This just might be it… The week AFTER Christmas: the most wonderful time of the year!

Those are the thoughts going on in my head this thought-provoking Thursday. What are yours?

I agree with you, Michelle! The week after Christmas is truly a wonderful time. We always have lots of family time and more time spent relaxing than before Christmas! I hope you have the most wonderful of New Years as well!

While I love Christmas, I too appreciate the quiet family time that comes right after. Of course, when I was a kid, I used to feel a huge let-down. Haha!

Yes, funny how our perspective changes! Hope you’re having a great start to the new year! Thanks for taking the time to comment! :)

What a nice post. This has been a lovely post-Christmas week for us too. So much family around, lots of noise and fun and cheer. What a blessing to us.

The noise of family around is a lovely noise indeed! Enjoy!

Hi Michelle!
Hope I’m not too late for Thursday even though it’s Tuesday! I took a blogging vacation but missed all my bloggy friends. Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas holiday.

It’s never too late! :) Looks like Mexico was fun! :)

I always love the week between Christmas and New Years!
